Team

Casey Marks [Founder and President]

Casey has worked as a data scientist, engineer, and team leader at six startups, and previously founded and was the principal at Five Hut Consulting. His work has spanned many fields including health care, genomics, psychometrics, finance, and cybersecurity. He was recently an instructor for the University of Washington Certificate in Machine Learning, and he has also taught calculus and computer programming. Casey earned a Ph.D. in Computer Science and a bachelor’s degree in Applied Mathematics at Brown University. For his dissertation he studied the connection between online learning algorithms and game theoretic equilibria.

Luke Miratrix [Statistics]

Luke is currently an assistant professor at the Harvard Graduate School of Education and affiliate faculty of the Harvard Department of Statistics. His primary research focus is on causality with a focus on developing methodology to assess and characterize treatment effect heterogeneity in randomized clinical trials and observational studies. Other research interests include data mining using high-dimensional and sparse (regularized) methods, text analysis and summarization, and large-scale cluster-randomized trails of education interventions. Luke received his Ph.D. in Statistics from University of California, Berkeley. He also has an M.S. in Computer Science from M.I.T., a B.S. in Computer Science from the California Institute of Technology, and a B.A. in Mathematics from Reed College.

Andrew Bauman [Machine Learning, Bioinformatics]

Andrew is a developer, mentor, and code reviewer for the Udacity Machine Learning, Data Analyst, and Self-Driving Car programs. He has previously worked as a scientist and team leader at Bristol-Myers-Squibb, VLST, and Seattle Children's High Throughput Analysis Core. Andrew received his Ph.D in Environmental and Molecular Toxicology from Oregon State, and M.S. and B.S. degrees in Chemistry from Michigan Tech.

Josh Bronson [Software Engineering]

Josh is a software engineer with expertise in networking, online privacy, security and censorship circumvention, web and cross-platform app development, information visualization, interaction and UI design, software internationalization, and mathematics. He has worked with the anti-censorship team at Google's Jigsaw, created linktag.co, and authored popular open source software. He received an Sc.B. from Brown University in Applied Mathematics–Computer Science.
